BOARD COMMITTEES

Annual Meeting Program Committee

Hugh Myrick, MD; Laura F. McNicholas, MD, PhD, Chairs

The Annual Meeting Program Committee is charged with developing a high-quality scientific program for the AAAP Annual Meeting and Symposium. The Program Committee receives guidance from the Board of Directors and AAAP membership on the content and sessions to be offered.

Bylaws Committee

Roger D. Weiss, MD, Chair

The Bylaws Committee receives all recommended changes to the AAAP bylaws. After approval by the Bylaws Committee, changes are submitted to the Board of Directors for action. After Board of Directors approval, they are presented to the AAAP membership for consideration at the AAAP Annual Business Meeting.

Contributions Committee

Roger D. Weiss, MD, Chair

Publications and Products Committee

Elinore F. McCance-Katz, MD, PhD, Chair

Kevin A. Sevarino, MD, PhD, Co-Chair

The Publications and Products Committee oversees the production of AAAP educational products. The committee generates products on its own and works with other AAAP committees to facilitate the development of products. The committee also manages the AAAP Book Service and maintains the AAAP Web site.

Finance Committee

Michael H. Gendel, MD, Chair

The Finance Committee is responsible for setting the financial goals and monitoring the financial status of the organization so as to accomplish short and long-term programmatic goals of the Academy. The Board of Directors appoints members of this committee.

Membership Steering Group

Laurence M. Westreich, MD, Chair

The Membership Steering Group continues to work toward providing AAAP members with an increasing array of member benefits – excellent meetings, the AAAP News, The American Journal on Addictions, the ability to affect local or national policy, a collegial forum and more. It also works to welcome new members and develops activities to retain members who will play a meaningful role in Academy activities.

The committee works with the Area Directors to encourage and maintain interest in the organization and to be responsive to member needs. The committee is working to expand the membership of AAAP through affiliate membership by recruiting non-psychiatrist professionals interested in the field of addictions.

The committee continues to focus on members’ needs and increasing membership by facilitating better communication with AAAP members. The committee also works with international members to provide resources for their unique professional needs including developing an international task force.

Nominating Committee

Richard N. Rosenthal, MD, Chair

The Nominating Committee is active every other year and develops the slate of candidates to be presented to the general membership at the Annual Business Meeting. The Board of Directors appoints members of this committee.

Past Presidents' Council

Thomas R. Kosten, MD, Representative

The Past Presidents Council is composed of all past presidents except for the Immediate Past President and any other past presidents who currently have a position on the Board of Directors. The council retains all privileges of other elected and appointed Board members; all Past Presidents may participate in AAAP Board meetings like elected and appointed Board members except that they do not have an individual vote. Instead, they have one vote among them determined by a plurality of their group.
