Meeting Learning Objectives
1. Participants will be able
to describe substance abuse and psychiatric disorders in children
and adolescents.
2. Participants will be able
to discuss the Clinical Trials Network.
3. Participants will be able
to outline the use of topiramate and anticonvulsants for the
treatment of alcohol dependence.
4. Participants will be able
to describe screening methods, treatment options and outcomes for
sexually transmitted diseases and coexisting mental and addictive
disorders.
5. Participants will be able
to describe pain management as it relates to substance abuse.
Optional
Pre-Conference Buprenorphine Training Learning Objectives
1. Participants will be able
to identify the clinically-relevant pharmacological
characteristics of buprenorphine.
2. Participants should be
able to describe the resources needed to set up office-based
treatment with buprenorphine for patients with opioid dependence.
3. Participants should be
able to describe and contrast the functions of full agonists,
partial agonists and antagonists.
4. Participants should be
able to list special treatment considerations associated with
adolescent opioid-dependent patients and list factors to consider
in evaluating a pregnant opioid-dependant woman.
5. Participants should be
able to describe symptoms of opioid withdrawal or intoxication
that mimic symptoms of a psychiatric disorder.
Credit
Designation
The Medical University of
South Carolina designates this educational activity for a maximum
of 26.25 Category 1 credits towards the AMA Physician’s
Recognition Award (8 credits for the Optional Pre-Conference
Buprenorphine Training and 18.25 credits for the Annual Meeting).
Each physician should claim only those credits that he/she
actually spent in the educational activity.
