The Wyndham El San Juan Hotel & Casino is conveniently located
in the Isla Verde area of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The hotel sits on
15 acres and is nestled on one of the island's most beautiful
white sand beaches. You can relax in the fantasy pool, featuring
waterfalls, Jacuzzis and a swim up bar with underwater seating, or
give yourself a workout in the Olympic pool, at the rooftop
fitness center or on the tennis court. The Wyndham El San Juan
offers a daily activity program of aerobics, Spanish lessons,
dance lessons and more. The helpful concierge and tour desk can
arrange island tours and local activity excursions. Old San Juan
is where you'll find shopping, entertainment and famous
historical sites. It is only 15 minutes away.
Registration and
Accommodations
All room reservations are being coordinated by AAAP.
Special AAAP hotel room rates are only available to persons who
have first registered for the AAAP 15th
Annual Meeting & Symposium. Do not phone the hotel
directly to make your reservations. The special AAAP room rate is
$185 Single or Double + Applicable Taxes and 11% Resort Fee. This
fee covers in room coffee, in room safe deposit box, poolside
fresh fruit/Evian water, daily newspaper, fitness center and
admission to Club Babylon. Check in time is 3:00 PM. Check out
time is noon. A one night's deposit is required with your room
reservation. The deadline for hotel reservations is November 1,
2004. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space
and rate available basis. Phone inquiries can be directed to the
AAAP Registration/Housing office at (540) 349-3114. Note that the
Registration Fee deadline for the early discount is November 1.

Ground Transportation
The Wyndham El San Juan is located just minutes from the
Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. Taxi fare from the airport
to the hotel is $9 plus 50 cents per suitcase for the first 3 bags
and $1 per each additional bag.
Attire
Dress is business casual or casual for all daytime
activities. Business casual (no shorts or sleeveless or collarless
shirts) is appropriate for most of the hotel restaurants.
Business Center
The hotel business center is open from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00
p.m. daily. A variety of business services are offered.
Climate
The average year-round temperature is 82 o
F (28o
C), with
mild easterly trade winds. A rainier season starts in August and
ends in October, but due to the tropical climate you can expect
brief rain showers any time.
Currency
The U.S. dollar is the official and only currency used in
Puerto Rico. Major U.S., Canadian, and European banks have
branches on the Island. ATM's are plentiful, and linked to major
worldwide banking networks.
Customs and Documents
Puerto Rico is a U.S. Commonwealth with U.S. citizenship,
so passports are not necessary for U.S. citizens. Foreign
nationals should have valid passports and visas as required.
Travelers flying from Puerto Rico to the U.S. are subject to
check-in baggage inspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
at the airport because they prohibit taking certain fruits and

Early Departure
The hotel will require an early departure charge in an
amount equal to the guest's current per night charge plus tax
for all guests who depart one or more days prior to their
scheduled departure date as verified upon hotel check in.
Electricity
Electricity is 110 volts, with U.S. style power outlets.
Gambling
Gambling is legal in Puerto Rico and all major hotels,
including The Wyndham El San Juan, have casinos.
Internet Connections
High-speed internet connection is available in all sleeping
rooms. The current charge for this service is $14.95 per 24-hour
period. Wireless internet connection is available at no charge in
the main lobby of the hotel.
Languages
Puerto Rico has two official languages, Spanish and
English. English is the official language of the meeting. All
sessions will be conducted in English only.
Phone System
The phone system is the same as in the U.S. (AT&T,
Sprint, MCI, etc.). The Island's area code is 787. You need to
dial the area code before placing a call to any number in the San
Juan metro area, and 1-787 for phone calls that are not within the
metro area. Calling cards used in the U.S. can be used in Puerto
Rico as well.
Postal and Mail Services
The U.S. Postal Service provides the same reliable service
as in the U.S. and all major courier companies service Puerto
Rico.
Size and Population
Puerto Rico is approximately 100 by 35 miles (160 by 56
kilometers), roughly the size of Connecticut. The island's
population is 3.9 million.
Smoking
Smoking is prohibited in all AAAP meeting rooms, sessions,
special events and the related lobby areas. Smoking is permitted
in designated areas within the hotel.
Taxes
There is no sales tax in Puerto Rico, but some incoming
promotional materials shipped to Puerto Rico from the U.S. might
be subject to an Excise Tax. Meeting, convention, or trade show
materials are exempt if planners follow a simple procedure through
the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau. There is an 11% tax on room
charges in hotels with casinos, 9% tax on hotels without casinos,
and 7% on small inns.
Time
The clock in Puerto Rico is on Atlantic Standard Time. For

Tipping
A 15% to 20% tip is customary. Some hotels and restaurants
add a 10%-17% service charge to the total bill.
Optional Pre-Conference Buprenorphine Training

AAAP is
providing training that will give physicians a comprehensive overview of
buprenorphine prescribing. This training meets U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services certification requirements. If you are a physician interested in
learning more about buprenorphine and its safe and effective use in an
office-based setting, an optional pre-conference training session will be
offered Wednesday, December 8, 2004, prior to the Annual Meeting. The training
session will include question and answer periods and small-group case
discussions to augment the lectures.
