Meeting Proceedings:
The 19th Annual Meeting & Symposium will be
available in CD-Rom format;
these are currently in
production. The CD-Rom (computer use only) will
feature all
sessions, symposia,
workshops, and presentations (of those available) in
audio AND visual format.
Conference handouts and
presentations will also be available online for limited
use.
All 19th Annual
Meeting attendees will be sent a copy of the CD-Rom when
production is complete.
And AAAP Members can
request this CD-Rom for free!
We expect the CD-Rom
to be ready in early February 2009.

The
American
Academy
of Addiction Psychiatry's (AAAP) 19th Annual Meeting and
Symposium will be held at the Boca Raton Resort &
Club in Boca Raton, Florida, December 4-7, 2008. The meeting provides researchers
and health care practitioners the latest developments in
treating mental health and substance abuse disorders. Meeting
events include symposia, workshops, poster sessions
showcasing new research in the field, Lunch with the
Experts, plenary sessions, Breakfast for Trainees, and a
case conference with expert discussion.

Conference Schedule
The 19th Annual Meeting & Symposium will begin on
the afternoon of Thursday, December 4, 2008 and adjourn
around noon on Sunday, December 7, 2008. This year’s
Annual Meeting & Symposium topics will be announced
shortly. The
conference schedule will also include a wide range of
new research presentations, small-group workshops, and
networking opportunities. A Preliminary Program

19th Annual Meeting and Symposium Learning Objectives
At
the conclusion of this conference participants should be able to:
1. Articulate the
incidence of new cases of alcohol dependence per year
2. Estimate the
likelihood of relapse over three years, dependence upon the type of
remission
3. List five subtypes
of alcohol dependence
4. Obtain knowledge
regarding novel treatments for substance abusers being evaluated in
Europe
as well as the experience
in implementing established and novel approaches in European
settings
5. Discuss the
integrated management of opioid dependence during pregnancy,
including medical
and obstetric issues,
psychosocial issues,
Axis I psychiatric disorders and medication
6. Identify the
complexities of working with patients in the criminal justice
systems, the barriers
and facilitators to
implementing
medications for criminal justice patients, and the overlap of
mental
and substance abuse
problems among
criminal justice patients
The symposia included
in the annual meeting sessions will all emphasize identification and
management of risk to patients
related to drug and alcohol use disorders and complications.

The Medical University of South Carolina designates this educational
activity for maximum of 19.0

claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in

Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing
Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Medical
University of South Carolina and the American Academy of Addiction
Psychiatry. The Medical University of South Carolina is accredited
by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

2008 Review Course: AAAP is happy to
announce that the Review Course will be returning after
high praise for the 2007 AAAP Review Course. The 2008 Review Course
will be held in conjunction
with the 19th Annual Meeting and Symposium. The
Review Course will be held on Saturday, December 6 and
Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Boca Raton Resort &
