The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), recently awarded $68.5 million in grants that support behavioral health education, training and community programs to help address mental health and substance use conditions in support of the President’s Unity Agenda for the Nation.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has issued a notice of award to the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) to continue the Opioid Response Network (ORN) initiative. The funding falls under SAMHSA’s State Opioid Response (SOR)/Tribal Opioid Response (TOR) Technical Assistance (TA) program. The award provides $18,500,000 per year for up to three years.

SAMHSA has issued a new Advisory on Preventing Substance Use Among Young Adults with Disabilities. In 2021, approximately 3.2 million or about 6.8 percent of people between the ages of 14 and 24 were living with a physical or mental disability.
